Review `Always True` by Dr. James MacDonald

This is a book about five promises of God for when the storms of life are upon the reader. Not only is Dr. MacDonald sharing these truths, he lived them in his own life. The reader will find that when God makes a promise He will keep it. (see Joshua 23:14).
I feel the author successfully conveys biblical truths through scripture and concrete examples. We see those examples through scripture references which he recommends we research for ourselves.
This is not a quick fix or easy reading book. It is a book that will make the reader think, ask questions and search their heart. The reader will want to read this in-depth book over and over again.

Review: `The Chasm` A Journey to the Edge of Life (by) Randy Alcorn

Price: $14.99
Format: Hardcover
ISBN: 9781601423399
Release: 2/8/11
Fiction/Christian/Classic & Allegory

This book is about Nick Seagrave and his quest to find truth. Nick is faced with his past, the choices he made and the choices he can make now.
There are several original illustrations by Mike Biegel that add much to the story. Although I would be able to picture the story without them.
There are light and dark warriors fighting for and against Nick. His destiny is either the chasm or Charis the 'City of Light.' There is sin and temptation pulling him one way, faith and eternal life pulling him another way.
The story reminded me of John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress", where Christian must find the correct path to take on his journey.
Randy Alcorn does a great job bringing out the plan of salvation in this 128 page allegory. There is a reader's guide in the back o…

Wednesday Hodgepodge - Vol 10

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge. To join in just click on the button.

1. Do you like your name? Were you named after someone? If you have children how did you settle on their names?
I like my first name (Michelle). My middle name is a family name. I don't like it because it's a boy name. So when people see my first and middle name together they call me (Michael). My mother had at first spelled my name Michell (without the last `e`) until someone told her they would call me Michael. So she changed the birth certificate and added the last `e`.
Our boys are named after people we know.

2. How do you define success?
To me success is being able to raise children who are able to add to society and take care of themselves.

3. Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy?
I don't watch much t.v. but these are two shows I try to always watch.

4. If you could own any single object that you don't have now, what would that object be?
A big farmhouse on lots of land

5. What is something that inspir…

Review: `The Christmas Promise` ~ Donna VanLiere

There are several 'colorful' characters in this story. Gloria is the cream of the crop, always looking for ways to help others. Miriam is from the other side of the tracks, always the snooty, disapproving neighbor. Chaz is a man who has moved around a lot, doesn't believe in Christmas and drinks too much alcohol.
The story line seems to switch back and forth a lot keeping me on my toes. It was a bit confusing trying to keep track of the characters. However this book presents the wonderful spirit of Christmas.
Each chapter begins with a quote. My favorite quote is from chapter five, "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around" (Leo Buscaglia).
This is an inspiring work of fiction, perfect for the Christmas season. I recommend it for the older teen to adul…

Review: Santa Cruise~ A Holiday Mystery at Sea

I was drawn to this book by the mysterious cover and title. How fascinating it would be to go on a "Santa Cruise". As I began reading I found this cruise is not for everyone. You must be one of a select group of people who have made this world a better place or have won the trip as the highest bidder in a charity auction.
The plot builds quickly. A mobster who goes by the name Bull's-Eye Tony Pinto and his right hand man, Barron Highbridge, are on board. The authorities are looking for them on the mainland not knowing their whereabouts.
This 261 page hardback book, by Mary and Carol Higgins Clark, is a quick read with short chapters filled with suspense and humor. This story had me so engrossed I read it all in one day. I would recommend this book to my friends.

Disclaimer: I received this book for Christmas (2010) and was not compensated, in any way, for my review.  I am linking up to The Journey Back
