Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

My Teasers:

"Yes, though I've never actually been there. My home was in that region of the kingdom, south of Bel Lione." He paced a few steps away, then back again. "But how can we possibly trust the word of this stranger? Why would he help us? We don't even know his name."

Kendrick considered this. "I noticed the same thing on the medallion we inspected back in Chessington, but it was in a different region of Arrthtrae. I thought it was just a blemish on the medallion...but what if the indented areas signal different strongholds, different regions of influence for Lucius?"

The Napkin...Easter message

Why did Jesus fold the napkin!? The Gospel of John (20:7) tells us that the napkin, which was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes. The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded, and was placed at the head of that stony coffin. Early Sunday morning while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, whom Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord’s body out of the tomb, and I don’t know where they have put him!” Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb to see. The other disciple outran Peter and got there first. He stooped and looked in and saw the linen cloth lying there, but he didn’t go in. Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus` head was folded up and lying to the side. Was that important? A…

Rick & Bubba's Big Honkin Book of Grub

This is a fun paperback book. Rick Burgess and Bill "Bubba" Bussey  begin this book talking about diets. Diets such as South Beach, Atkins and Weigh Down are discussed. Most important is Rick and Bubba's `Hey You Gotta Live` Diet. This diet includes processed sugar, white bread, animal fat and red meat.
Rick and Bubba's philosophy is, `continue to support all food...only do it in moderation.` Their weightloss tips are hilarious. I found myself agreeing and nodding my head more than once.
The book is well illustrated. I enjoyed looking at the pictures scattered throughout the book. The text is large font, so even a reader with limited vision could easily enjoy reading it.
The Rick and Bubba diet gives you seven free days to eat what you want and zero diet days. This is definitely not a boring book, with lots of humor thrown in.
Throughout the book there are …

`Here Burns My Candle` (by) Liz Curtis Higgs Review + GIVEAWAY

As I open this book my first glance is of Edinburgh during 1745. I always enjoy maps in the books I read, as they always give substance to the text. Quotes, which I find interesting, are at the top of every chapter.
Elisabeth was into reading phases of the moon. She could not understand how her mother-in-law, Marjory, could worship a God she could not see. Elisabeth was torn between the Highlanders and Lowlanders, her husband being a Lowlander and herself being a Highlander.
The story starts out a bit slow. At times the dialect was a bit hard for me to follow. I thought the book would enlighten me, but as I continued reading I found the storyline hard to follow. I do believe if the reader is a history buff and is familiar with the dialect they will find no difficulty here. I must admit this was a challenging book for me to review. Throughout the book the reader will find glimpses of someone searching for God. The story was intriguing, but …

Red Letters Project Review

This is my first review of a Tyndale House Publishing Co. product and my very first review of an audio product. This product consists of a 3 CD set of select text of quotes of Christ from the book of Matthew, set to music. The product is very well packaged in an attractive pull-out sleeve containing the 3 CD set plus a booklet containing the New Language Translation of Matthew. The cover design is attractive, though a bit plain. The music is expertly arranged by Mario Canido who is also credited as one of the contributing musicians. The CD's are well produced with excellent musicianship and vocals, the genre being a cross-section of modern styles. I personally prefer the contemporary Christian music, but some of the other styles shine through at times. Someone with limited musical tastes may have a bit of trouble listening to the words of Jesus presented in these diverse methods. However, the Word of God will never return void. I feel this "Project" as the title …

The Flowering Cross (by) Beth Ryan

What a beautiful book to behold. The title, cross, and abundance of flowers magnify the cover. It seems to acknowledge that Spring is on the way. This book was inspired by the book `Won by Love` by Norma McCorvey. Because this book is oriented toward children, `The Flowering Cross` reminds me that Jesus said, "Let the little children come unto Me".
The pages are cheerful, colorful, and vivid and should be appropriate for children ages 5-8. The illustrations are easy to see with your child sitting right beside you at home, or in a group setting. Throughout the book are `Faith Imprints` that the parent and child can discuss together to go even deeper into the meaning of the book.
The story is founded on good morals and sound doctrine. It closes with describing how you can have your own cross celebration with your very own Flowering Cross, with plans and specifications included.

Dancing with My Father (by) Sally Clarkson

This book asks the reader, "Is it possible to live as a joyful Christian in this fallen world?"                             From the beginning of the book, the author focuses on having joy at the center of our lives. To find the joy of walking with God, minute by minute, it takes a personal commitment. The reader must choose joy. It takes effort and prayer but, the reader will reap great rewards.                             What drew me to this particular book? My earthly father recently passed away. The last time I saw him we danced together. The joy and contentment I found by dancing with my father I have been able to transfer to my heavenly father.                              As Sally states, "Walking in Joy is simply believing in Him, turning our eyes on Him, leaning on Him. Simple faith."                              I feel that Sally does a good job portraying the tests we walk through on our way to joy. I would definitely recomm…

Mother-Daughter Duet: Getting to the Relationship You Want with Your Adult Daughter

In a beautiful mother-daughter book, Cheri Fuller and her daughter Ali Plum, walk us through their life of a mom letting go of her adult daughter. Because of their openness we can see how God can work in our lives with our adult children.
I like the way the chapters are divided into segments of each of the authors perspectives which helps the reader understand both sides.
As I read, I became aware not only of a mother-daughter relationship, but how it can relate to sons also. According to Ann Caron, "The most important thing is to keep communicating."  As Cheri Fuller says, "Love consists of much more than words."
To assist the reader in finding ways to stay connected, the author lists several things the reader can do to improve communication.
All in all this is a wonderful book on connecting with those close to us.
I recommend mothers and daughters buy this bo…
