`The White Horse King` (by) Benjamin Merkle

I read this book as a read-aloud to my son. To be honest he understood it better than me. The authors style used old English idioms and syntax. I usually steer clear of books with unfamiliar words. As a visual learner I really appreciated the maps and drawings. I found the footnotes to be a distraction.
I did find the book to be quite interesting, although at times it seemed to be dry. I would recommend this book to fans of King Alfred or British history in general.
I feel the author really knows his topic well.
