Review: The Returning

'The Returning` is a Christian Fiction novel written by author Rachelle Dekker. The year is 2278 and Elise, the female heroine,.wages war against the powerful forces of evil. It's light against dark. Rachelle Dekker is the oldest daughter of New York Times bestselling author Ted Dekker. You can visit her online at www.rachelledekker.com

With the prophecy unfolding and the choosing of the Seven to fight against evil this novel reminds me of `The Hunger Games`.

Elise is the daughter of Carrington, the daughter she had to leave behind 20 years ago. Remko, Elise's father, is my favorite character. I can relate to him. After 20 years he still misses Elise and wishes to rescue her. I like what Remko has to say about faith. Faith's purpose is not to release you from life's trials but gives you the strength to see the trial fully and know that this too shall pass.

There is an assortment of letters written to Elise from her mother dispersed throughout the novel. These are more a diary than letters because they weren't mailed. Her mom hoped to give them to Elise one day, in person.

As this is the third novel in this series it kept me guessing about the power of light coming from Elise. Nothing is as it seems. The voice within her named her daughter, chosen and called.

I recommend this book to fans of science fiction.
