Review: Getaway with God

About the book:

Overworked and overwhelmed, many of today's Christian women live their lives at an exhausting pace--without any margin for refueling. Even in their strongest spiritual seasons, most long for more intimacy and time with their heavenly Father. But with the demands of modern life, simply getting up earlier in the day to fit in a devotion is no longer a viable--or fulfilling--option.

What if there was a way to plug in and recharge your soul, not just your smartphone? What if a simple day away could transform your life? Getaway with God invites readers to step away from the incessant pressure of deadlines and demands to spend time with God. More to the point, it walks women through each step of designing their own retreat--whatever kind is needed.

Letitia Suk provides step-by-step guidance and the necessary tools to enable any woman to plan an extended time away on any budget. Part one offers detailed steps for preparation, including descriptions of different kinds of retreats and templates for how to use each hour. Part two focuses on designing a five-day life-review retreat, including guided questions and ways to bring the retreat home. The practical appendixes identify retreat centers nationwide and provide a checklist for what to bring.

Suk's warm, mentoring voice will assure readers that, no matter what their season in life, the time for retreat is now.

`Getaway with God` is a Christian Life, Spiritual Retreat book written by author Letitia Suk. Letitia Suk is a Retreat Leader, Personal Life Coach, Hospital Chaplain and Blogger (www.hopeforthebest.org). She enjoys speaking and writing to women of all ages.

A getaway with God is a day, a morning, evening, or overnighter spent alone with Jesus and feeling His love. It is highly recommended the reader get away from home and household duties and get alone with just them and God.There are several links at the back of the book to websites that can help the reader find the right getaway for them. There is also a list of what to bring in chapter two. The author covers the subject adequately. The approach to the subject is descriptive.

The author supports her argument of having a personal retreat by sharing her own retreats and by giving plentiful tips on why the reader needs a personal retreat. I do find the evidence convincing. I can think of ways I could have a personal retreat. For example, a dear friend of mine has a Bed & Breakfast nearby that is quiet and secluded. I could also go to our local Botanical Gardens for a morning or evening. This is the first book I have read on having a personal retreat.

I recommend this book to young mom's, empty-nesters and anyone with a chaotic lifestyle. One style doesn't fit all. Be in prayer about your retreat before you go and ask others to pray before, during, and after.
