Review: Looking For Lovely

I like how honest author Annie F. Downs is in her new book, `Looking For Lovely`. I can relate to her on so many areas, from nail-biting to binge eating.

Annie Downs is an author, speaker, and blogger. She uses her writing to highlight the everyday goodness of a real and present God. Annie shares personal stories and biblical truths throughout her book.

At first glance I was not going to choose this book for review, thinking it was a fit just for young adult women. However, the truths she shares can be for any woman, any age. It's time to take our masks off and expose the real us.

In her book, she speaks of the absence of lovely, in search of lovely and when I found lovely. In the absence of lovely Annie saw herself as ugly. So, she experimented with anorexia and bulimia. She didn't like either so she began binge eating.

I cried when I began reading the second section. I know what it is like when tragedy strikes and it seems there is nothing you can do about it, whether it's your friends' tragedy or your own. At the end of each chapter, in section two, Annie gives suggestions in `Look For Lovely`. She admits there will be pain, but things will get better.

Now that Annie has found lovely her life feels altogether different, brand new. God has shown up and healed places Annie didn't know about. She says, "When you find Jesus, you have found lovely. He is everything we need."
