Evolving In Monkey Town (by) Rachel Held Evans

Image
Dayton, Tennessee is the home of the Scopes trial as well as Rachel Held Evans. In this book Rachel takes a closer look at what she believes, shedding old ideas and gaining new ones.
Rachel begins to ponder whether only born-again Christians go to heaven. She wonders about victims of Hitler, Stalin, Hussein, and Milosevic. She questions whether hell is eternal or if God will destroy it for good. She admits there are some Bible verses she doesn't like (ex. I Timothy 2:12).
The reader is reminded of Isaiah 55 where the mystery does not lie in God's unfathomable wrath but in His unfathomable mercy. God's ways are higher than ours because His capacity to love is infinitely greater than our own.
She explains to us how some tend to thank God for things such as a new kitchen appliance yet lack the joy Christians should have and how others praise God for food, shelter, health and peace and you can see joy and sp…

Just as she was about to tell him about the visit from the police, he went into the bathroom. When he returned he started talking about his day. Because he seldom talked about work--or for that matter any of the trivial day-to-day things in his life--Shelby said nothing.

I Am Hutterite (by) Mary-Ann Kirkby

Image
The author takes the reader on a trip to the past, beginning before she was born, later telling of her family leaving the Hutterite clan.
Mary-Ann explains indepth what it was like to be a Hutterite and to live in a colony. There are approximately 45,000 Hutterites living in 460 colonies throughout North America.
When I saw this book on the Thomas Nelson list of books to review it piqued my curiosity but not sufficient enough to order it. Later I was contacted by Jodi of Thomas Nelson Publishers to read it. Upon learning the Hutterites are spiritual cousins to the Amish and Mennonites I decided to review it.
At first I thought how intriguing it would be to become a Hutterite. They do not earn wages but share all their material things and work together for the common good. It brings to mind the early church mentioned in Acts 4:32. However, it could also be a place of tension and conflict.

You Can Be Everything God Wants You To Be (by) Max Lucado

Image
True to Max Lucado's writings `You Can Be Everything God Wants You To Be` packs a powerful message. This nice hardback gift book is geared toward the graduate or young adults. The reader is challenged to find their "sweet spot", the oh-so-nice feeling, the zone, region, life precinct in which you were made to dwell.
Max tells the reader they have a "sweet spot" but he doesn't leave them hanging. He explains how the reader can find their "sweet spot", the spot where everyday life, strength and God's glory converge.
How exciting to the reader to realize what they were meant to do, to realize they are a masterpiece. As they work out the plans God has for them (Jeremiah 29:11), they show how big God is. That is what this small book does, it helps the reader realize they are unique, in a handful of short chapters.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to find their "sweet spo…

A Review CSN Totally Bamboo

You may have noticed CSN online stores mentioned around the internet. I had fun searching through their 200+ online stores for the perfect item to review. I recently had the pleasure of reviewing a `Totally Bamboo` cutting board. I was pleasantly surprised when the cutting board arrived within only a few days of ordering. CSN stores has proven to carry items of high quality.

I was impressed with the size, durability, and quality of the bamboo cutting board. For long life the board does require a revitalizing oil.

You may wonder why we should use bamboo. Bamboo is harder than maple, will not dull knives, and has natural anti-microbial properties. In my efforts to go green I am pleased to find bamboo is a sustainable and naturally renewable resource.

*I received a `Totally Bamboo` cutting board from CSNStores for my honest review.
